Twitpic, we hardly knew ye

Twitpic is shutting down on September 25 2014. (Update: see here.)

This in itself doesn't upset me so much - I have used its facilities just nine times, the most recent being in June 2013 - but the circumstances are unsettling. Twitpic's owner Noah Everett says in his corporate blog:

"A few weeks ago Twitter contacted our legal demanding that we abandon our trademark application or risk losing access to their API. This came as a shock to us since Twitpic has been around since early 2008, and our trademark application has been in the USPTO since 2009."

So here, while it lasts, is the official widget containing all nine of my Twitpic submissions:

(Update October 18: The widget is now offline.)

I wish I could remember why I kept using Twitpic for a year after I opened my Instagram account.

Twitter ($TWTR) closed on Wall Street a few hours ago on $50.24 up 1.84% in the day's trading.
