How Aussie sports teams are doing overseas

Submitted by Rick Eyre on August 5, 2009 - 8:54am

The Young Matildas, Australia's women's soccer youth team, lost to their Chinese counterparts 2-1 in an Asian Under-19 Championship tie in Wuhan on Monday night. And if that wasn't enough, there was an all-in brawl after full-time with spectators pelting the Aussies with bottles.

Is the Serie A really worth the trouble?

All Italian football is in limbo after the death of a policeman during a riot at Friday night's Catania v Palermo game.

For a league still recovering from the match-fixing traumas of recent uears, this level of crowd violence sinks its reputation even further.

I have linked to a report from The Guardian. I dare say we'll hear more over the weekend.

La Gazzetta's website has more, in Italian of course.
