Getting your anti-Madonna priorities right

Mrs Madonna Ritchie, 48, of Marylebone has been copping a lot of flak this week, what with "adopting" a Malawian child and transplanting him to a foreign society. Is that what the American Family Association is worried about? Nope:

AFA helps force NBC to cancel scene mocking crucifixion of Christ

AFA supporters have won a great victory! The efforts of AFA Online supporters has forced NBC to cancel a scene in the upcoming Madonna special in which she mocks the crucifixion of Christ!

More than 750,000 AFA supporters emailed NBC asking for the scene to be deleted from the special which is scheduled to air in November. NBC saw a potential loss of $25,000,000 and decided to edit out the scene.

We were effective because we stuck together and combined our voices. Our supporters not only emailed NBC, but they also called their local NBC stations. Those stations contacted NBC and the network listened. The scene is gone!

The Guardian reports today that the AFA asked it members to bombard NBC, its affiliates and sponsors with emails of protest. Apparently, some 850,000 emails were sent. (How many people this actually represents is not clear.)

The AFA seems to have very little interest in condemning Madonna over a genuine issue of morality. But then, 850,000 Malawians can log on to the net and send protest emails of their own, can't they? Er.....

Postscript - This statement from the AFA's About Us page:

AFA does not support "censorship." Censorship, by definition is government imposed. What AFA does support is responsibility.
