Getting upsot with Fanny

A day or two ago
I thought I'd take a ride
And soon Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated by my side
The horse was lean and lank
Misfortune seemed his lot
We got into a drifted bank
And then we got upsot

- second verse of Jingle Bells, James Pierpoint, 1857

Not only does "Jingle Bells":
(a) have no reference to the birth of Jesus Christ, and
(b) depict a rather salacious situation in the second verse, climaxing with a non-existent adjective, but
(c) it's not even a Christmas song!
