Roo-bish

Just about everything I have to say about Tuesday night's Twenty20 international at the SCG was said one year ago after the Australia v South Africa game.

Just a few additional observations:

If the game was a sell-out, and the official attendance was 35628, then that's about 11000 members who didn't turn up!

What's with the change of nicknames for some of the Australians? Mike Hussey - "Mr Cricket" has suddenly become "Huss". Michael Clarke is no longer "Pup", this year he has the highly imaginative "Clarkey" on his back. (Presumably they didn't have enough letters to call him "Lara's Latest Bingle") Nathan Bracken, "Bracks" in 2006, has become "Andy" in 2007, because of his resemblance to a chap called Andy G who apparently is Australia's equivalent to Ant And/Or Dec.

And am I really to believe that Ben Hilfenhaus is called Hilfy by his mates? That said, in a game where bowlers are meant to be nothing more than stooges for the batsmen, Hilfenhaus looked impressive and I hope he (a) gets a guernsey (b) does well in the ODI series.

But every time I saw the ball tonked to the outfield or into the grandstand, I kept thinking to myself, what a waste of a perfectly good full-sized oval. Twenty20 cricket is better suited to a small, intimate setting. Having taken Adara to a children's book reading by Rosanne Cash at the Fabulous Spiegeltent in Hyde Park the other day, I think I have the solution...
