Best Paralympics ever? Calling America...

It's seems like a statement of the bleeding obvious to say that London 2012 has provided the best Paralympic Games ever. Regardless of the standard of play, they have captured the imagination like never before, in no small part because they, like the Olympic Games themselves, were conducted by LOCOG. No longer are the Paralympics a forgotten afterthought to the main event.

Massive live TV coverage in the UK through Channel 4, in Australia through the ABC, and elsewhere, but what of the US? Ten hours on NBC. Ten hours over nine days. Edited highlights.

London Day One: Austrians all let us rejoice

The NBC is copping an absolute bollocking for sticking to a (for them) tried and trusted formula in covering the Olympic Games - or as Americans insist on calling them, the Summer Olympics. Taking the day's highlights, packaging them up and wrapping them in a journalistic narrative worked in the 20th century. Problem is, we are now a dozen years into the 21st.

Day Zero: or, Why the Olympic Ideals are dead, thank you Mr Putin

"The General Assembly... Urges Member States to observe, within the framework of the Charter of the United Nations, the Olympic Truce, individually and collectively, during the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in Beijing, the vision of which is based on the slogan "One world, one dream", and the following Paralympic Games;"

NBC states the bleeding obvious

NBC News reached the same conclusion on Monday that we've all known since, oh, 2003: That there's a civil war in Iraq.

Matt Lauer read the solemn pronouncement on Monday's Today show, declaring that NBC (80% owned by General Electric NYSE:GE, 20% by Vivendi FR:012777) has decided to call the vicious and bloody conflict between the Shi'ites and Sunnis a "civil war".

MSNBC takes up the story.

Getting your anti-Madonna priorities right

Mrs Madonna Ritchie, 48, of Marylebone has been copping a lot of flak this week, what with "adopting" a Malawian child and transplanting him to a foreign society. Is that what the American Family Association is worried about? Nope:

AFA helps force NBC to cancel scene mocking crucifixion of Christ
